Amazon CPM Ad Reporting Down
If you are currently experiencing a problem with Amazon CPM Ad reporting in your Amazon Associates account, you are not alone. The problem appears to be widespread. Users (including me) began experiencing what appeared to be a sharp decline in reported impressions (not just fills) around March 22nd. As of this writing, Amazon CPM Ad Reporting is indicating 0 impressions and $0 earnings for the day.
What you should do
If you are seeing a decline in your Amazon CPM Ad earnings, the most important thing to know is DO NOT TRY TO FIX IT! It’s a common mistake, if you don’t know the problem is only with reporting, to think there is something wrong with your site or with your search engine results. I came very close to going down that path, but found when investigating Webmaster Tools, that there was absolutely nothing wrong with my search ranking, impressions, and position – the problem is only with Amazon Reporting.
Some users are now seeing a message to that effect on the reporting page (see the screenshot above). But even if you aren’t the best thing you can do is wait. Amazon has an excellent track record with fixing reporting numbers after the fact. The numbers should go back to being correct within a few days.
Update – March 29, 2016
Things are slowly getting back to normal.with the Amazon CPM Reporting. I have numbers showing up over the past three days or so, but they seem to be still updating. Getting some stats for today even.
I am have been in this vertical for many years. I designed and implemented one of the largest ad serving network infrastructures which still exists today – and I can imagine the enormity of the problem they were dealing with. And although it took a few days, simply keeping ads running and not losing any data, or even losing minimal reporting data – and I have no reason the think they have lost any – means that the engineers, dbas, the developers – everyone who worked on addressing this crisis did an outstanding job. If you’re thinking that this wasn’t such a huge crisis – that’s what I mean. It would have to have been, and if it didn’t show, they deserve a lot of credit?
Update 2 – April 1, 2016
Sometime today the banner went back up apologizing for the problem with reporting. While reports have not been a zero like they were previously, they have been lagging behind for most of the week. We’ll have to wait and see how this pans out. Right now, there is no comment from Amazon in the forums or otherwise as to how long it will be before the problem is resolved – just the acknowledgement.
