Possible names for Android O – Comprehensive List

Many possible sweet names

The possible names for Android O, soon to be Google’s newest version of it’s portable device operating system, are almost endless.  Historically, Google has named the operating system after something sweet; not always a dessert, but sometimes it is, unless you consider a candy bar dessert.

Because of this, there are many, may possibilities.  As I said, “almost endless”, but not “endless”.  There are a finite number of sweet things in the universe – or at least on this planet – that start with the letter “O”.  We intend to list them all here.  If we create an exhaustive list of everything sweet on planet earth that starts with the letter “O”, we can claim to have predicted the name of Android 8 correctly when it comes out later this year.

Most Likely sweet names

The favorite, of course, is Oreo Cookie.  So we’ll start with that.  If you think of one that we’ve missed, please let us know in the comments below.  Our intention is to cover every possibility so that we will be right.  We will be so bold, however, as to omit products that do not fit historically into Google’s naming convention.  For example, “Orange Crush” will not be considered because Google doesn’t seem to use beverages.  In fact, when they had the opportunity to call Android M Android Milkshake, they passed on that in favor of Marshmallow.  We could also probably have a debate on whether a milkshake is a beverage, because I don’t think it is just because it comes in a cup, but that’s not really important to the discussion.

The Orbit gum is making a little sense to me – if you look at the current logo for the dev version of O. The again, I suppose that could just be an “O”. The challenge her is that on paper, an orbit looks a lot like an “O”, doesn’t it? Perhaps nothing can be deduced from the orbit shaped orange creamsicle looking beta logo.

  • I’m thinking “Opal Fruits” is the way to go. Partly because the candy is so common, but I don’t think that it had a different name originally, is well known.
