Exclude Source for Google Now News Feed Rolled Out
Up until now, you had limited ability to control what news stories showed up in your Google Now news feed. They were always “interest based”, but considering how much data Google keeps on your (and my) interests, the news it had been bringing to my attention was often surprisingly “uninteresting”. On some cards (cards are the individual boxes that each hold a news story or other item) you had the ability to exclude the topic from future feed selection, but it was only on a few select cards, and those options were ambiguous.
Now you can make the very unambiguous choice to exclude the source of a story from all future feeds – right from the card. Let’s say I keep getting stories about technical stuff and I don’t want them. A particularly irksome card shows up in my Google Now News feed about how I can now customize the Google Now News Feed and it’s from the Verge. The Verge happens to be the source of many of these helpful and interesting things appearing in my news feed, so I want to get rid of them forever. I simply tap the options menu (three dots in the upper right of the card) and select “Not interested in stories from the Verge”, and that’s it. No more stories from the Verge will appear in my Google Now News Feed!
I would never do this with the Verge specifically – I only use that as an example since I have already banished all unwanted contributors from my feed.
This is a big step in the right direction for what is already quick and easy way to get information based on your interests – simply by swiping to your Google Now News Feed. If Google keeps this up, it may eventually be the only place you need to go for your intraday information fillup.
